Born and raised in Winston Salem, NC, DeCarlos got his musical start in church at the age of 5. Due to the mass amount of musicians at the church, DeCarlos really never got a chance to play much. But he strived to be the best at what he did by practicing and watching instructional videos. During his pre-teen years, DeCarlos showed interest in the piano, guitar and trumpet.
Over the years DeCarlos has been participated in several talent shows and was awarded "Youth Musician of the Year" in 1997 at the Waldjo Music Awards. Throughout his high school years he continued to his success by becoming a favorite at East Forsyth High. Even while attending college, DeCarlos auditioned and became the drummer for the Guilford College Jazz Band.
Watching instructional videos from drummers such as; Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Omar Hakim and many others, has helped build him mentally and physically to be creative and expand his different styles. In December 2011, DeCarlos started an organization by the name of, Drummers United. This organization is not only about teaching drums, but DU is also about teaching morals, setting goals and getting involve with local schools, churches and communities.
His latest achievements, came at the 2014 Forsyth County Entertainment Award Ceremony when he awarded Musician of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. He’s currently drumming for; The Funk Town Players, Mevla Houston, The Bob Sanger Trio and teaching students in the Triad area.
Being mentored by the world renown Dennis Chambers, DeCarlos has grown musically. He has become a favorite on social media and is starting to gain some attention across the globe. His solo project is his main focus right, in which he will feature some of his favorite musicians including Dennis Chambers.
